A well-installed solar PV system is largely fit-and-forget — but an annual or biennial health check catches small issues before they become expensive ones, keeps your warranties valid, and protects long-term yield.
What we check
Visual roof inspection, panel cleanliness, mounting integrity, DC isolator and connector condition, inverter error logs and firmware, AC switchgear, earthing, and a full performance check against expected generation.
Why it matters
Soiling alone can reduce yield by 3-7% per year, and a single failed connector or under-performing string can cost £200+ annually in lost generation. A £149 service typically pays for itself.
Warranty preservation
Most manufacturer warranties require evidence of reasonable maintenance. We keep a digital service record you can share with your installer or insurer.
Performance benchmarking
We compare your actual generation against PVGIS modelling for your postcode, roof aspect and pitch. If you're more than 8% below expected for the season, we investigate string-level performance, optimiser data (where fitted) and shading changes — trees grow, neighbours build extensions, and yield can quietly drift downward year on year.
Inverter firmware and monitoring
Most modern inverters (SolarEdge, GivEnergy, Fox ESS, Solis, Fronius) push firmware updates that improve MPPT tracking, fix monitoring bugs and add tariff features. We check you're on the current release, confirm your monitoring is reporting correctly to the cloud, and re-link the portal to your email if your previous installer disabled access.
Battery health checks
If your install includes a battery, we read state-of-health (SoH), cycle count, and charge/discharge throughput. A typical lithium battery should retain 90%+ capacity after five years; lower numbers may indicate cell imbalance or a cooling issue worth raising with the manufacturer while warranty cover applies.
Bird and pest proofing
Pigeons nesting under panels are the single most common avoidable cause of damage to South East installs. We fit mesh skirting around array perimeters during maintenance visits — it stops nesting, protects cabling, and avoids the much larger cost of stripping panels to clear an established colony.

How often do solar panels need servicing?
Most installers recommend a check every 1-2 years. We can schedule recurring visits if that's easier.
Do solar panels need cleaning?
In most South East locations, rain cleans panels adequately. Coastal salt deposits, heavy pollen and tree sap can require a manual clean — see our cleaning service.
Will a service void my existing warranty?
No — independent maintenance by an MCS-registered engineer using non-invasive testing is explicitly permitted under every manufacturer warranty we've reviewed. We document everything so your warranty paper trail is stronger after a visit, not weaker.
What if you find something wrong?
We give you a written report with photos, a priority rating (urgent / recommended / nice-to-have) and a fixed-price quote for any repairs. There's no obligation to use us for the fix — many homeowners take the report to their original installer for warranty work.
